报告人简介:
Vincent Post is a Senior Lecturer at Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia. He obtained a PhD in hydrogeology from the VU University in Amsterdam in 2004. His research focuses on the fate of solutes in groundwater, in particular in coastal regions. He is one of the lead developers of the PHT3D code, a three-dimensional reactive transport simulator with capabilities for variable-density and unsaturated flow. He has worked on study sites in the Netherlands, Portugal, Australia, and the Pacific Ocean. He was the lead author of a Nature paper that was published in 2013 in which it was demonstrated that freshwater reserves under the seafloor are a global phenomenon. He served as an editor for Hydrogeology Journal between 2010 and 2015, and is the author of 40 refereed journal articles.
报告摘要:
Coastal zones are home to a major part of the world’s population and centres of economic activity, as well as invaluable ecosystems such as wetlands and mangrove systems. Population and economic growth have resulted in an increased demand for potable and irrigation water supply, and fresh groundwater resources are under severe stress in many coastal areas around the world. The management of freshwater reserves in coastal regions requires special consideration of the risk of seawater intrusion into aquifers. This presentation will highlight some case studies of coastal groundwater systems around the world. It will be demonstrated that often the effects of past sea level fluctuations on geological timescales are still reflected by the present-day salinity distribution, and that these need to be understood for making water management decisions. The presentation will also go into the effects of future sea-level rise and flooding, as well as the global occurrence of freshwater reserves under the seafloor.
